A Practical Place to Start

Security & Safety Checkups

Sometimes You Just Need an Experienced Second Set of Eyes.

Most schools already have emergency plans, security procedures, access controls, drills, and established safety practices.

But an important question remains:

Is everything working the way you think it is?

A Nelson Strategies Security & Safety Checkup provides school leadership with an independent, experienced review of existing security, safety, and emergency preparedness practices.

Unlike a comprehensive assessment, the Checkup is intentionally focused in scope. It provides an opportunity to confirm practices that appear to be working well, identify potential gaps, and determine where additional attention may be warranted.

What We May Review

The Checkup is tailored to the individual school and agreed-upon scope. Areas reviewed may include:

  • Campus access and visitor management
  • Emergency plans and procedures
  • Lockdown, evacuation, and reunification procedures
  • Staff roles and responsibilities
  • Emergency communications
  • Security policies and practices
  • Training and drills
  • Physical security practices
  • Campus supervision
  • Other concerns identified by school leadership

What You Receive

We keep the objective straightforward:

  • What’s working?
  • What needs attention?
  • What should we do next?

School leadership receives practical observations and recommendations based upon the areas reviewed.

We don’t believe every observation needs to become a major project. Recommendations should be realistic, prioritized, and appropriate for your particular school.

What Happens Next?

That depends entirely upon what we find. For some schools, relatively minor adjustments may be all that are recommended.

For others, the Checkup may identify a particular issue requiring additional attention or indicate that a comprehensive assessment would be worthwhile.

There is no predetermined next step and no requirement to purchase additional services from Nelson Strategies.

We start by taking a look.
