Schools present a unique security challenge.
They must remain welcoming environments for students, families, and educators while also protecting against risks that cannot be ignored.
We do not believe effective security requires creating a fortress.
Instead, Nelson Strategies focuses on sensible layers of protection, strong procedures, prepared employees, and practical solutions appropriate for the individual campus.
Practical Recommendations
Recommendations have to work in the real world.
We consider not only whether a security measure can be implemented, but whether it can realistically be maintained day after day.
A complicated procedure that employees cannot consistently follow may provide less protection than a simpler procedure that becomes part of everyday school operations.
An Independent Perspective
Our role is to provide school leadership with an objective assessment of what we see.
That means identifying areas of concern, but it also means recognizing practices that are already working well.
The objective is not to generate an unnecessarily long list of recommendations.
It is to help leadership make informed decisions about where attention and resources can have the greatest impact.
